The new reservoirs were located near Velika Hrastilnica (Sisak-Moslavina County), which is part of the Zutica fields, one of the oldest and richest INA sites in continental Croatia.
It is estimated that oil from the new sites could earn INA up to 50 million USD a year.
Oil has been produced for decades from the Zutica site and it was long thought that all local reserves had been discovered.
INA's research strategy has proved to be successful as daily production from the new reservoir could yield around 230 cubic meters of oil, which equates to around 1400 barrels, for the next 25 years.
