EIGHT THOUSAND WORKERS IN PROTEST

In the protest warning of the Alliance of Independent Trade Unions of BiH (SSSBiH) that will be held on Saturday, 26 May, in front of the Parliament of FBiH in Sarajevo, more than eight thousand people are expected to participate, SSSBiH President Ismet Bajramovic said-

At a press conference in Sarajevo, Bajramovic said that the protest will begin at 12 noon in front of Parliament, after which columns will head toward the FBiH government building, with an aim to highlight the difficult socio-economic position of workers in FBiH.

"The protest is being organized because regulations aren't being respected, workers' acquired rights aren't being respected, but rather threatened, and the social dialogue with syndicates is ever more neglected, they are trying to derogate collective agreements, there is no investment, no public works, and laws that are crucial for workers aren't being written," Bajramovic said.

Demands of the Alliance, which will be summarized and confirmed at the protest, include the adoption of labor laws and changes to laws relating to strikes, infringement, and executive proceedings.

The Alliance seeks the adoption of laws on linking work service, financial consolidation of companies, confiscation of illegally acquired property, as well as a law on Corridor 5c, concessions and other legal solutions that should enable opening of works, new employment, and filling the budget.

Bajramovic said that the SSSBiH wants to draw attention to the fact that the unemployment percentage - at 46 percent - could be a lot less if they reduce "illegal" work.

SSSBiH Vice President Salih Kruscica added that the protest, and the many people who participate in it, will show that the syndicate is united and that it will persever in the struggle to restore dignity to workers.
