There is a clear and strong reason why we traditionally participate at these conferences, especially because we are included in the DCAF program on border safety, Minister Ahmetovic stated for Fena.
Minister of Security of BiH Sadik Ahmetovic will participate in the Ninth Annual Ministerial Conference on Border Security Cooperation in South Eastern Europe on Thursday and Friday in Skopje, organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Macedonia and Center for Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) from Geneva.
"There is a clear and strong reason why we traditionally participate at these conferences, especially because we are included in the DCAF program on border safety", Minister Ahmetovic stated.
According to him, the existence of safe and control borders is challenge for every country.
"With isolated and unilateral efforts it is difficult to achieve that goal and because of that, regional cooperation is a precondition to fight successfully against all kinds of border criminal", Minister Ahmetovic said.
The role of DCAF’s program on border safety in recent years has been of great significance, so the Minister of Security expects this program in the coming period to facilitate work and obligations that are ahead of BiH in its integration process.
"As is known, the new convocation of Council of Ministers of BiH has found the application for candidate status for membership in the EU as its main priority. Because of that, it is necessary to continue to strengthen regional cooperation to respond to growing demands in term of taking over and applying the EU law, especially in part of integrated border management", Minister Ahmetovic told Fena.
The conference in Skopje is held under the auspices of the Danish Presidency of the Council of Ministers of the EU, and it is expected by the close of the conference that the Ministry Declaration on Border Security Cooperation in 2012 will be accepted.
