Yesterday, a meeting of 20 prominent women from different social spheres in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the wife of the USA ambassador to BH Mrs. Danuta Moon, regarding her direct engagement in the “Race for the Cure” project.
Danuta Moon is highly engaged in humanitarian work of different kind in our country.
She said that she took the role of the honorary chair of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee and Susan G. Komen - “Race for the Cure”, so that she could influence women, and the whole society, to raise awareness about the fight against breast cancer, in a way that would start a dialogue about this issue and break taboos.
She and stated that she is honored to be a part of this project and that she is going to continue supporting it in the future.
Nela Hasic, the Director of the Women's Health Empowerment Project, has said that the goal of the “Race for the Cure” is to decrease the number of people with breast cancer, primarily through increasing awareness about this disease and its prevention.
“It is important to educate women and explain to them that breast cancer is treatable if its diagnosed early, in the first or second stage. We have a situation in which women are dying because they weren't aware about the importance of early detection”, Hasic said..
She has expressed hope that this meeting of 20 women with the wife of the USA ambassador is going to bring abut a kind of collaboration by expanding the number of people propagating the fight against breast Cancer and directly decreasing the number of people with breast cancer.
During the meeting, the participants came to a conclusion that it is important to raise society’s awareness about humanitarian work, and influencing the BH government in order for them to solve the problems women with breast cancer are facing.
Also, more support from media was required, because, as the participants concluded was not on a adequate level in BH.
The participants expressed their support for the “Race for the cure” and have promised to help this humanitarian event, which is going to be held in Vilsonovo šetalište on September 24th at 12 am, to gain more momentum.
The goal of this meeting was, among other to send a message about the strength of women in BH, and a dialogue about the ways to increase awareness about the importance of common activities.
