  • london_stadium.jpg

Countdown continues for 2012 London Olympic Games and preparations are at the final stage.

The construction of the main stadium, which will host opening and closing ceremonies and athletics races, has been completed.

To host the Olympics for the third time, London is in a rush for the 2012 Games.

The main stadium, whose construction began in May 2008, was built in less time than planned. The last part of the turf was placed on the lawn by International Olympics Committee (IOC) member Namibian former sprinter Frankie Fredericks.

London Olympics Committee chairman Lord Sebastian Coe expressed gratitude for completing the stadium without overspending and in time. IOC Coordination Council president Denis Oswald noted they are pleased and impressed with progress in the stadium.

80-thousand-capacity stadium cost $ 777 million to build. West Ham United team will take over the Olympic Stadium after 2012 Games.
